Description
Brucella IgG antibody testing involves measuring the levels of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies in the serum that are specific to Brucella bacteria. Brucella is a genus of bacteria that can cause brucellosis, a zoonotic disease transmitted from animals to humans. The presence of IgG antibodies indicates exposure to Brucella bacteria at some point in the past, suggesting either a current or previous infection or vaccination.
This test is commonly used in diagnosing brucellosis, particularly in cases where there’s a suspicion of chronic or past infection. It’s also used for monitoring the effectiveness of treatment and assessing the immune response in individuals at risk of brucellosis, such as veterinarians, farmers, or laboratory workers handling Brucella-contaminated specimens.
