Description
Fructosamine is a compound formed when glucose molecules attach to proteins in the bloodstream. It serves as a marker for average blood glucose levels over the past two to three weeks. Similar to hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), which reflects average blood glucose levels over the past two to three months, fructosamine provides a shorter-term measure of glycemic control. It’s often used in the management of diabetes to complement HbA1c measurements or when HbA1c results might be affected by factors like recent blood transfusions or certain medical conditions.
