Description
Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) is a protein associated with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is a marker of active viral replication. When HBeAg is present in the blood, it typically indicates that the person is highly infectious because the virus is actively replicating. This antigen is often used as a marker in diagnosing and monitoring hepatitis B infections. However, the presence of HBeAg alone does not necessarily correlate with the severity of the infection or the progression of liver disease.
